BPR is also maintaining a monetary donation resource list here: https://www.bpr.org/bpr-news/2024-09-28/list-ways-to-donate-and-help-flood-victims-in-western-north-carolina-after-hurricane-helene

Edited from https://www.facebook.com/carolinacert: As recovery progresses, there will be a strong need for help with restocking homes, rebuilding roads, and repairing homes. Carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and equipment operators will be essential. Regarding donations: this isn't a typical emergency. We've been specific in our requests because survival is the priority. People need water, nonperishable food, diapers, and baby formula.

Please be patient and strategic. Don't just show up unannounced. Smaller towns around the area are most in need of help.

Clothes, games, and other items will be needed later. For now, focus on survival essentials like blankets, pet food, batteries, and medicines. Ensure you have a recipient before delivering donations, as many places cannot store supplies at this time.

In a Buncombe County Update (10/6, 4pm) assistant Emergency Services Director, Ryan Cole, asked people from outside the Western North Carolina region to please not travel to the area. The region is saturated with people and onlookers and the number of out-of-towners is hampering emergency operations. The county is currently at max-capacity for physical donations. Cole asked folks from out of town to please hold off on bringing more donations into the county until later this month which is when current resources will dry up and physical donations will be the most needed. If you are not from the area, please direct monetary donations to the organization of your choice. Several excellent ones are found on this page.

COLD WEATHER ITEMS NEEDED: Temperatures in the area will soon begin to dip into the 30s. Please consider donating coats, blankets, gloves/mittens, hand warmers, and other cold weather items at our county donation drop-off sites. Locations include:

  • - 1298 Patton Avenue in West Asheville
  • - Arden Presbyterian Church at 2215 Hendersonville Road in Asheville
  • - Harrah's Cherokee Center - 87 Haywood Street, at the front door - 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., 7 days a week.
